In this free drum lesson, Jared Falk discloses the result of the social challenge he put himself through: playing a single paradiddle between his left limbs while executing a double paradiddle between his right limbs in a week. He also takes this opportunity to show you how to play this challenging pattern in 4/4 and 6/4 time signatures.
The pattern taught in this free drum lesson came from the twisted mind of the great Virgil Donati. It’s a very hard pattern to play well because of the high level of independence required. Once mastered, you can keep working on your four-way independence with it by using different limb combinations to play the single paradiddle and the double paradiddle. For instance, play the single paradiddle between the left arm and the right leg and the double paradiddle between the right arm and the left leg.
This free drum lesson shows us a whole new approach to applying drum rudiments to our playing. Taking rudiments and spreading them out between your limbs will do wonders for your independence and creativity around the set. We encourage you to take this concept and apply it freely for coming up with cool sounding and original patterns of your own. Pick 2 of the 40 drum rudiments to get started right away.
