The Swiss army triplet – alongside 13 other drum rudiments – was added to the standard 26 American drum rudiments in 1984 by the Percussive Arts Society. The single paradiddle-diddle is the last pattern from the paradiddle family of drum rudiments and the main pattern featured in the “Motown drum fill” – one of the greatest drum fills of all time, which was made famous by the great late Motown house drummer “Benny” Benjamin. The herta is a hybrid drum rudiment from the single stroke family of drum rudiments. It’s made up of two fast singles followed by two slower singles. It’s often described as being a single stroke double or a single stroke drag, since the two fast singles sound pretty much like a double or a drag, respectively.
